The Batman Becomes The World Greatest Batman Movie

Batman movie and a new Batman, and director Matt Reeves and star Robert Pattinson show why this character is a timeless icon. Critic EJ Moreno calls this masterful and the best Batman movie yet; check out his full spoiler free feelings.

Two years of stalking the streets as the Batman (Robert Pattinson), striking fear into the hearts of criminals, has led Bruce Wayne deep into the shadows of Gotham City. With only a few trusted allies—Alfred Pennyworth (Andy Serkis), Lt. James Gordon (Jeffrey Wright)—amongst the city’s corrupt network of officials and high-profile figures, the lone vigilante has established himself as the sole embodiment of vengeance amongst his fellow citizens.

When a killer targets Gotham’s elite with a series of sadistic machinations, a trail of cryptic clues sends the World’s Greatest Detective on an investigation into the underworld, where he encounters such characters as Selina Kyle/aka Catwoman (Zoë Kravitz), Oswald Cobblepot/aka the Penguin (Colin Farrell), Carmine Falcone (John Turturro), and Edward Nashton/aka the Riddler (Paul Dano). As the evidence begins to lead closer to home and the scale of the perpetrator’s plans becomes clear, Batman must forge new relationships, unmask the culprit, and bring justice to the abuse of power and corruption that has long plagued Gotham City.

The Batman sees Robert Pattinson (The Lighthouse) donning the cape and cowl as Bruce Wayne/Batman alongside Zoe Kravitz (Big Little Lies) as Selina Kyle/Catwoman, Colin Farrell (Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them) as Oswald Cobblepot/The Penguin, Paul Dano (Escape at Dannemora) as Edward Nashton/The Riddler, Jeffrey Wright (Westworld) as Jim Gordon, Andy Serkis (War for the Planet of the Apes) as Alfred Pennyworth, John Turturro (The Big Lebowski) as Carmine Falcone, Alex Ferns (Chernobyl) as Commissioner Pete Savage, Con O’Neill (Ordinary Lies) as Chief Mackenzie Bock, Peter Sarsgaard (The Killing) as Gotham D.A. Gil Colson and Jayme Lawson (Farewell Amor) as Bella Real.

The Batman More Pulled from Release in Russia After Invasion of Ukraine

The war in Ukraine is an ongoing, painful and emotive topic. IGN urges community members to be respectful when engaging in conversation around this subject and does not endorse harassment of any kind.

Paramount has now joined other major studios in pulling its movies from release in Russia, including Sonic the Hedgehog 2.

“As we witness the ongoing tragedy in Ukraine, we have decided to pause the theatrical release of our upcoming films in Russia, including The Lost City, and Sonic the Hedgehog 2.  We stand by all those impacted by the humanitarian crisis across Ukraine, Russia, and our international markets and will continue to monitor the situation as it unfolds,” reads a statement.

Major Hollywood studios have begun pausing their film releases in Russia – including The Batman, Morbius, and more – following the invasion of Ukraine.

Yesterday, Disney announced that it would pull all theatrical releases in Russia due to the “unprovoked invasion of Ukraine and the tragic humanitarian crisis”.

“We will make future business decisions based on the evolving situation,” added Disney. “In the meantime, given the scale of the emerging refugee crisis, we are working with our NGO partners to provide urgent aid and other humanitarian assistance.”

Its upcoming animated film Turning Red was due to premiere in Russia on March 10.

Warner Bros. soon followed, confirming that The Batman would not debut in the country.

“In light of the humanitarian crisis in Ukraine, WarnerMedia is pausing the release of its feature film The Batman in Russia,” it confirmed. “We will continue to monitor the situation as it evolves. We hope for a swift and peaceful resolution to this tragedy.”

Additionally, Warner Bros. was due to release Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore on April 14, as well as the upcoming DC League of Super-Pets on May 19.

Following the news from Disney and Warner Bros, Sony Pictures added that it too would suspend its upcoming releases in Russia.

“Given the ongoing military action in Ukraine and the resulting uncertainty and humanitarian crisis unfolding in that region, we will be pausing our planned theatrical releases in Russia, including the upcoming release of Morbius,” said a Sony Pictures spokesperson. “Our thoughts and prayers are with all those who have been impacted and hope this crisis will be resolved quickly.”

This follows a call from the Ukrainian Film Academy for an international boycott against Russian cinema and the Russian film industry.

The petition (via change.org) calls for a boycott from producers and distributors, as well as international film festivals “not to allow in the competition and non-competition programs films produced by the Russian Federation or in co-production with it.”

Meanwhile, the Motion Picture Association also issued the following statement:

“The MPA stands with the international community in upholding the rule of law and condemning Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. On behalf of our member companies, who lead the film, TV, and streaming industry, we express our strongest support for Ukraine’s vibrant creative community who, like all people, deserve to live and work peacefully.”

Zoe Kravitz confirms Catwoman’s sexuality in The Batman

In the Batman comics, Catwoman is bisexual, however, in the films, the character is almost always portrayed as a heterosexual woman who lusts over Bruce Wayne.

Now, in Matt Reeves’ new film The Batman, which stars Zoe as Catwoman and Robert Pattinson as Bruce Wayne, Catwoman does share a romantic relationship with Batman.

However, in one scene, Selina Kay enters her apartment on the hunt for her friend Anika, and while doing so, she calls her ‘baby’.

Throughout the rest of the film, she appears to flirt with Batman, while Anika is simply referred to as Catwoman’s ‘friend’.

Speaking to Pedestrian magazine, Zoe and Matt cleared it up once and for all.

Zoe clarified: ‘That’s definitely the way I interpreted that, that they had some kind of romantic relationship.’

When the interviewer expressed how happy they were to have Catwoman as a bisexual woman in the film, Zoe replied: ‘I agree!’

In another interview with the publication, director Matt said: ‘[The film is] very true to the character of Selina Kyle. She’s not yet Catwoman, but all the elements of how she’s going to become Catwoman are there.’

‘And in terms of her relationship with Anika, I spoke to Zoe very early on and one of the things she said which I loved was that.'

‘She’s drawn to strays because she was a stray and so she really wants to care for these strays because she doesn’t want to be that way anymore and Anika is like a stray and she loves her.

‘She actually represents this connection that she has to her mother who she lost, who was a stray anymore.’
